All the old stuff from last year.
--- June 22, 2009 Monday ---
We are all set
for Summit Point June 27 and 28. This race is a double header, on Saturday and
Sunday.
The head gasket problem we had the last time out has encouraged
us to build a second engine. The new engine will have Darton cylinder sleeves.
This should make for a much stronger head gasket sealing surface. Also, the new
crankshaft will have a 0.150" longer stroke and the bore will be 0.060" larger.
This workes out to 319 cu. in. With a new cam profile, the computer simulation
looks like about 570 HP at 8,000 RPM.
We have not forgotton about the
cars frequent poor handling in the tight turns and have changed the rear shocks
and springs to allow the car to roll more in the corners. This makes the front
anti roll bar rate a greater percentage on the front springs, more rear grip in
the turns.
Also, we have installed new brake rotors that have been heat
treated by Solar Atmospheres, Inc. The people at Solar are first rate and we
are looking foward to testing the new rotors. The unheat treated rotors last
about 2 race weekend before showing small crack around the lightning/vent
holes. We have used them for a couple more race weekends with no failures.
--- May 29, 2009 Sunday ---
We had to cancel
going to the May 8, 9, 10 race at VIR, I was sick with a bad cold. However, the
head gaskets have been replaced and everything looks good to race at Summit
Point June 27 and 28.
--- April 19, 2009 Sunday ---
We went to
Summit Point on Friday for testing. Did not go well. Looks like the head gasket
is leaking compression into the cooling system. This forces water out and the
engine overheats. We are going to pull it apart tomorrow. Hopefully we can get
it back together for the May 8, 9, 10 race at VIR.

Up-Date,
problem with Engine found. After a bunch of work it was discovered that one of
the four magnets in the crank trigger system was missing! Problem solved. How
it ran as good as it did is a mystery for the computer engineers to understand.
The problem forced me to get well acquainted with the tech support staff a
Accel, they were very helpfull.
--- March 11, 2009 Wednesday ---
We got home
from VIR late Sunday evening, 8.5 hours, not too bad a drive.
Weekend went
good, nice weather, the event went off smoothly. SCCA ran a good show as usual.
The car was good except for a starter problem that caused me to miss my
qualifying session. I had to start last (11th.) in my race.
After about a
1/2 lap I was 4th. With 1 lap to go I was 2nd and the engine computer started
to have a problem.
I was afraid I would not be able to finish another lap
and pulled into the pit area, finished 4th overall.
All-in-All even with the
mechanical, electrical issues the weekend was good. The car is working much
better than last year.
With the improved mechanical grip (different front
spring and shocks) and more wing angle (8 to 10 deg.),
I have much more
confidence the car will stick. My times improved over the weekend from about
2:14 to 2:04 in the race.
Accell and I are working on the engine computer
problem, should have it fixed this week.
Next race looks like Summit Point,
April 18 and 19.

--- Feburary 23, 2009 ---
Yep it's 2009
already, where did the winter go! VIR is in about two weeks March 6, 7, and 8.
We still have to put the NorthStar engine back in the old car and change
the brakes.
Old Car: Not much changed for this year, except:
1) Service the engine, new rings, bearings and a touch-up on the
valves.
2) New Wilwood cast iron brake rotors. We tried titanium rotors at
the end of 08, didn't work, would not stop the car.
3) More new tires,
Hoosier 25's, 35's.
4) Small changes on the body work.
G-Force Car: Long way to go with this one,
hopefully later this year. We did:
1) Make new drive plates for the carbon
rotors. The iron rotor drive plates use different bobbins.
2) Bought a
second Aurora 4.0 L engine, still short some parts for it.
3) Found a second
set of wheels on RaceCars.com. We have 2 sets blasted and painted
now.
